About Course

M. Tech in Information Technology (IT) is a two-year course at SVKM NMIMS Global University (SNGU) that covers advanced topics in Cloud Computing, Networking, Information and data Processing, Security, and Privacy. Students gain an understanding of current research and open challenges in these areas, preparing them to pursue further research in IT.Graduates of this program who wish to continue their studies can pursue a PhD in IT.

Key research areas in Information Technology include Cloud Computing, IoT, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, AI, Cyber Security, Privacy, Digital Forensics, Data Analytics, Social Networking, Digital Marketing, Computer Networks, Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, Image Processing, Machine Vision, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality.

This program is ideal for students interested in conducting research in the fields mentioned above. It provides a strong foundation for those aiming to pursue research further. It is also a great option for students seeking careers in the IT industry, such as Data Analysts, Security Analysts, or IT Architects.

Preface

Over the past two decades, the field of Information Technology (IT) has experienced significant growth, evolving into a key discipline that facilitates advancements across various scientific and technological domains. While a four-year B.Tech curriculum provides a broad introduction to the field, it is crucial for students to acquire advanced knowledge in specialized areas and gain practical experience with real-world applications in both industry and research.

The two-year M.Tech program in Information Technology offered by the Department of Information Technology is designed to: (a) provide in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in both core and advanced areas through courses and laboratory work; (b) equip students with the skills to manage and advance large-scale projects in industry and research; and (c) offer interdisciplinary exposure through elective courses in other fields. The program adheres to the curriculum framework established by esteemed regulatory bodies, including AICTE, UGC, and the Maharashtra State Council of Higher Education, ensuring alignment with NEP 2020.

The degree will be awarded upon the successful completion of required coursework credits and satisfactory performance in a year-long project. The minimum CGPA requirement will follow the prevailing norms of the university/school.

Key Features of the Curriculum:

  1. Case-based Innovative Teaching Pedagogy:This teaching approach focuses on using real-world case studies to enhance learning. In an M.Tech program, this pedagogical method allows students to engage with complex, real-life problems and challenges they may encounter in the IT industry. By analyzing and discussing case studies, students can apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  2. Flexibility through Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS): The program is designed with flexibility, offering students the ability to choose from a wide range of professional electives through the Choice-Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS). This structure provides students with the freedom to tailor their academic journey while maintaining academic rigor.
  3. Multi-Disciplinary Approach for Professional Competence: The curriculum integrates a multi-disciplinary learning approach, fostering professional competencies across various domains. It equips students with the expertise required to thrive in dynamic career paths in the technology sector and aligns with the standards set by key accreditation bodies like AICTE, ACM, and ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), as well as the NBA.
  4. Experienced Faculty Members from Industry, Profession, and Academics:A well-rounded faculty composed of experienced professionals from academia and industry offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical insights. This approach ensures that students gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, blending the latest industry trends with foundational academic principles.
  5. Compulsory Internship for Real-World Exposure: To provide students with hands-on industry experience, the program mandates an internship component. This practical exposure enables students to apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings, enhancing their understanding of industry practices and equipping them with valuable insights.
  6. Integration with NPTEL/SWAYAM Online Resources: The curriculum is designed to include courses mapped to NPTEL/SWAYAM offerings, allowing students to access a wide range of online learning materials and certifications. This integration supports further academic growth and provides opportunities for students to enhance their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom.
  7. Continuous Evaluation Pattern Instead of relying solely on end-term exams, continuous evaluation involves regular assessments throughout the course. This can include quizzes, assignments, projects, presentations, and practical exams. This evaluation method provides ongoing feedback to students, enabling them to track their progress and address areas of improvement in real-time.
